From Renaissance Venice to the streets of post-war Rome, Sir Antonio Pappano loves to explore the passion, the melody and the sun-kissed colours of an Italy we almost never hear.

There’s more to Italian music than just opera, and on this digital EP, Pappano presents Puccini’s Capriccio Sinfonico, a work which showcases the soaring imagination of a young composer in the dawning days of his career. Recorded live at the Barbican in June 2022, Pappano says the piece “captivated the orchestra”. “Their energy, their curiosity, their sense of ensemble and their dynamism when they play for an audience is just something very, very special.”
