Dvořák's Sixth Symphony secured him international fame following its premiere 1881. The influence of his native Bohemia, its sounds and its culture are abundant and give the work a refreshing flavour reminiscent of his Slavonic Dances. Sir Colin Davis's recordings of Dvořák's Symphonies Nos 8 and 9 were the first titles released on LSO Live, immediately establishing the label's international reputation. Since then the Symphony No 7 has also been released to great acclaim.

Reviews

'[A] terrific disc ... The composer's Bohemian origins are to the fore in this rich reading of his Pastoral symphony: joyous, lyrical, atmospheric, like an autumn walk in a Bohemian wood.'

- The Sunday Times’ Classical CD of the Week

'When Colin Davis and the LSO launched their own record label with recordings of Dvorák's last two symphonies, they won instant acclaim. [Now adding] a resplendent Sixth, [it] blazes with Bohemian warmth and vivacity.'

- The Daily Telegraph

'[Davis'] attention to orchestral detail imparts an almost chamber-music feel that is entirely beneficial. His reading of the first movement is marvellously infectious.'

- BBC Music Magazine
